Hello Lady RoughRiders,
My name is Derek Robinson and I have been named the Executive Director of Hockey Operations for the RoughRiders Hockey Club, which will oversee both the boys and girl’s programs in Colorado. I have been the Director of Hockey Operations for the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders since program inception (for the past 8 seasons) and I am excited to start working with the girl’s program.
I am aware that there have been some challenges this season and wanted to share that the board has made significant changes to correct these issues moving forward.
The first change has been the creation of my position, which will oversee both the Rocky Mountain RoughRiders and the Lady RoughRiders programs. We will also be hiring a new LRR Hockey Director who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Lady RoughRiders and will report to me as well as the LRR Board of Directors. We have implemented a national search to fill this position. We are looking to hire an experienced Director/Coach with extensive experience at the Tier 1 level or above and to date, we have received resumes from several qualified candidates from across the U.S. and Canada. This person will serve as the Hockey Director for the girls’ program, coach one of our top Lady RoughRider teams and will serve as an assistant coach for another Lady RoughRider team. This person will also be responsible for overseeing the other coaches within the program. This position will be a full-time job.
The girls program will be structured in a manner very similar to the training/development model of the boys. In addition to the Head and Assistant coaches for each team, the LRR program will have Skills Coaches, a Goalie Coach & Strength Coach. This approach to team coaching has proven to be very successful at the boys Tier 1 level.
The RoughRiders are committed to developing Colorado girls. The teams will be made up of primarily Colorado girls although, we will open our doors to girls from out of state to compete on our teams. As we finalize our staff for next season, we will determine exactly which teams we will be fielding for this upcoming season with the overall goal of fielding recreation, AA & AAA teams at the 14U, 16U, & 19U age levels as well as a 12U recreational level team.
The RoughRiders Hockey Club plays primarily out of our new state of the art facility, the Sport Stable in Superior, CO. The Sports Stable features (www.sportstable.club):
We are committed to developing players for the next level and building elite level teams that can compete at the highest level.
The first step in this process is the unveiling of our Lady RoughRider Spring program. This program mirrors what we have done on the boy’s side and focuses on pure hockey and athletic development through on & off ice training sessions. These training sessions will be rigorous and physically demanding. The RoughRider spring program is where players are pushed and challenged to develop and get better in all aspects of their hockey development. (Please see the attached flyer)
As decisions are made on new personnel, summer programs and tryouts, families will be kept informed via e-mail. Thank-you for being part of the RoughRiders Hockey Club.
